Index Creek Fire Update

Fire Size: 223 acres.
Started: Tuesday, June 26 at 5:40 p.m.
Cause: Downed power line
Location: Index Creek, West of U.S. Highway 212; 4 miles SE of Cooke City, MT
Fire Activity/Operations Today: Fire continues to smolder and creep, the recent thunderstorms with light showers and clouds have moderated the fire activity the last several days, as the area receives more sunshine, fire activity may increase along the western flank of the fire which is inaccessible to firefighters but is surrounded by rock on all but the southern edge. Fire will continue to be monitored daily until significant moisture is received which may be late fall.
Containment: 70 percent contained.
Smoke: Light, with minimal effect to Highway 212.
Resources: One engine

Vegetation: Green and dead timber.
