Lightning Starts Several New Fires in the Northern Black Hills

 

Rapid City, SD – Federal, State and local VFD firefighters responded to multiple lightning ignited wildfires today.  As a thunderstorm moved through the northern Black Hills this afternoon, it produced over 300 lightning strikes in the Great Plains dispatch zone; which includes Nebraska, South Dakota, and portions of Wyoming and North Dakota.  Three fires that federal and state resources were dispatched to include the Wonder View Fire, Hollow Fire, and the McAmis Fire.

 

Wonder View Fire

This lightning caused fire was 0.1 acre in size.  It was located 12 miles west of Sundance, WY on private land.  Federal and Crook County resources responded.  The fire is 100 percent contained.

Hollow Fire

This lightning caused fire was 6.5 acres in size.  It was located 4 miles northeast of Hulett, WY on private land.  Federal, Crook County and Hulett VFD resources responded.  The fire is 85 percent contained, and crews expect full containment this evening.

McAmis Fire

This lightning caused fire was 1.5 acres in size.  It was located 5 miles northeast of Hulett, WY on private land.  Federal, Crook County and Hulett VFD resources responded.  The fire is 100 percent contained.
