The Rocky Mountain Area Fire Prevention and Education Team (FPET) took Smokey Bear to the 90th Greeley Stampede for the July 4th Pro Rodeo festivities. July 4th was the final day for all events of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sponsored event. The Greeley Stampede is billed as one the top 25 rodeos in the country, and proved to be a great venue for making contact with rodeo fans. The arena seats 8,500 people, and it was nearly full. Smokey Bear stood at the most popular entrance to the arena greeting grandparents, parents, and children alike. Prevention team members handed out bandanas with the fire prevention message. Smokey posed with fans for many pictures. The reaction and comments directed to Smokey were all positive evidenced by many people thanking Smokey Bear for his efforts to reduce the number of fires in Colorado. Smokey’s day at the Greeley Stampede ended by being a part of the evening parade where he could wave to his fans.
